If my lilo won't work i will kill....

Ok...i had a thread there i explaind my lilo problem. Its like this:
I've installed slackware 8.1, configured lilo.conf and everything. Assume that the lilo.conf is correct (it is, have had at least 7 people looking at it).

The only thing that happens after bios is
L 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01
01 01 01 01 01 01 01 and so on, (No lilo meny just this)

I've installed the lilo in to the MBR. I know there is other options then MBR, but let's go with the MBR it should work!?

i have searched the internet for answers, i found a faq reffering to the "geometry" of the hda (IBM 40G partionend to 6G and 34G)
didn't really understand that article

my settings
IBM 40 G
hda
IBM 80G
hdd1 = boot
hdd2 = swap
hdd3 = root

any ideas...have struggled with this to looong

In a root terminal in Slack type:

fdisk -l

and post the contents. your bootable partitions should be marked with an asterix.

erm.. when you formatted your hard drive, did you set it's boot flag to 1? If there's no * by the hdd1 (which you say you set to be the hdd to book from lilo), then you'll need to format again. Do cfdisk this time, because it is more graphical than fdisk, and it show you if the partition is bootable without having to do an fdisk -l (you can also run cfdisk to see if the word "boot" appears next to the hdd that you told lilo to boot from)

try using cfdisk ... more easy to use. example

cfdisk /dev/hda

like Falcon wrote, make sure the partition is mark bootable. dont also forget to set lba32 in your lilo.conf. It seems your partition is too big to fit in the lilo. (40GB hdd?)

Falcon 213 02-03-2003 09:33 PM

40 gigs isn't too big.. I have a 40 gig hdd all on one partition that boots with lilo fine..

Ok, i'm gonna test, thanx for the help....if it doesn't work, i'm gotta kick out lilo and install grub.

Grub seems much easier, and less headache.
