ident problem

hi, I have a fresh install of slackware but ident is not working correctly. on IRC it doesnt have the ~ by my username so that means it works but its not using the name I specified with xchat. I put xchat in edit mode and put smokey for username and real name, unchecked global user info and proxy server but it still says 1000@myipaddress.

How can I fix this? Quite annoying.

well that is the user id displayed by default. the 1000 that u see is the id of user who is logged into the system.

open ident.conf in /etc/ident.conf and look for a line where it says uid = yes , put it to uid = no and then it wont display the user id in the ident by default. but now it will display the user name of the user logged into system as ident. i dont know how to fix it, but as u asked to get rid of uid, so that was the way to do that.
