Ideas Needed
Hey everyone. I know this is off topic, but since I almost always hang out in the Slack forums, I decided to post this here. Mods, please feel free to delete this thread if you feel it is inappropriate.
I am thinking of setting up a new forum dedicated to Slackware users with some sort of offspins for Linux in general. I am interested in gathering some input from you...the users that this will represent...newbies/gurus and the curious. I will also eventually need some moderators/admins to help with the daily maintenance once things progress...if they progress. Nothing is for sure, and this may end up to be a futile attempt in the end. But hey....I need something new to take on, and I thought this would be a perfect fit for my interests at this point in time. Basically, I welcome any ideas/advice you may have. I have some ideas on domain names, hosting, etc., but I haven't decided on anything yet. And if you are opposed to this, I would like to hear this as well. You can reply to this, as long as the Mods allow it, or email me at daone@neapco.com. Thanks. |
Although agreeably offtopic, you're just getting feedback for something actually Slack-specific and linked no other external forums yet. I 'll just give my feedback.
However, I think that this board is as Slack-specific as you can get along with some other boards thrown in as an added bonus. For me, I prefer to use these fine forums at LQ because the userbase is already there and there's already a wealth of information here. |

However, my intent is NOT to take a single member from LQ...not one. I am simply inerested in adding another information sharing source. Admittedly, LQ has inspired this desire. It is simply my desire to "do my own thing". There are many Linux forums out there, but not many that have the wealth that LQ has. I would just like to add another source. No disrespect intended to LQ. |
DaOne,
I understand your ambitions, and must say, that I too have considered something along those lines many, many times. Maybe I just don't have the balls for it, or maybe I'm just lazy to actually put plan to concept and concept to something concrete. And I have tremendous respect for people who actually go with their ambitions and sticking to their gameplan. This include you my friend :) I never said that you're trying to grab members from LQ, and if somehow my previous post sounded that way, I sincerely apologise because that never, ever, was my intent. What I would like to suggest to you though is something non-forum like in nature. Maybe like a hints and tips resources but not in forum format... Forums in my opinion, is better suited for someone willing to spend a lot of time moderating and monitoring, in the short to medium term. Maybe like a Wiki site or something... Just my two cents :) |

As for hints/tips, or a Wiki site...never thought of that. Interesting... Thanks!!! :) |
I think a nice Slackware HowTo / Handy Hints site would be brilliant.
Don't really need another forum :D 90% of the time, when I google for a answer to a problem LQ is in the first page of responses, and 90% of that time, is the info I need. Sadly, the other 10% of the time I spend days / months searching for howtos that just don't exist. |
