icewm 1.38
Hello Everyone.

I'm wondering if it's just me or are some themes not working properly on
icewm 1.38. Example: Infadel2 the title bar is transparent.

Conrad_Troutman 12-31-2013 06:32 PM

I had the same problem. This also happened with xfwm4 for some themes. I'm pretty sure the proprietary Nvidia drivers caused it. The problem went away when I switch to the Nouveau drivers.

Hello Conrad_Troutman,

I tried your suggestion and removed the Nvidia proprietary driver. I'm running the nouveau right now but some icewm themes still have a transparent titlebar.

Hello Everyone,

Here is a screenshot of the problem in icewm 1.3.8.

Any ideas?

dugan 02-01-2014 02:29 AM

Are you sure the theme is compatible with that version of icewm?

GreenFireFly 02-01-2014 12:58 PM

Hello Dugan,

It's not the theme. I tried some of the default themes that come with icewm like Infidel and still had this issue but, i must say not all have the problem. And this theme work in icewm 1.3.7 in slackware 14.0 but when i upgraded to slackware 14.1 now i have this problem on both icewm 1.3.7 and 1.3.8.

I could not duplicate this on my 14.1 installation and icewm built from SBo. Also, I wonder if stale libraries might have gotten left from 14.0. Just a thought, something to look into. One source of information, besides /var/log/Xorg.log.*, is the user's errorlog; mine is called ~/.xsession-errors set by /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession, though by default it is set from /etc/X11/Xsession.

GreenFireFly 02-02-2014 03:01 PM

Hello j_v,

I dont think its staled libraries because i had downloaded slackware 14.1 as iso image.
I checked for errors on the /var/log/Xorg.log but, found none. Also i too compiled mines from slackbuilds. Is the one you compile the 64 bit version?

Conrad_Troutman 02-02-2014 06:32 PM

I'm experiencing this same problem right now using AMD's Catalyst graphics drivers. Before, I tried icewm with the open-source radeon drivers and it worked fine. Why this is happening I have no idea.

But I did find a way to get around the problem. I noticed that all the image files that were invisible were all of 1 pixel width. So, I modified the titlebar image files of the default icedesert theme (I just made them 2 pixels wide), and the titlebar is now looking the way it's supposed to.

j_v 02-02-2014 10:35 PM

Ok, just thought I'd mention that about stale libs, since you mentioned updating to 14.1 rather than a fresh install (but I may have jumped to conclusions in this case). My current home system runs 14.1 pure 64 bit, no multilib; so yes, built 64 bit icewm. I have done a little googling and I think that given that Conrad Troutman's fix sounds very familiar to ones I read about on the the icewm bugtracker. I wonder if some of the proprietary nvidia files got left behind, still causing you grief? Just thinking out loud.

GreenFireFly 02-03-2014 03:39 PM

Hello Everyone,

Ok i can also confirm that if i resize the width of 1 pixel xpms to 2 pixels fixes the titlebar. I also noticed that some icons are not being show on the taskbar. Only icons that are in the /usr/share/icewm/icons directory seem to work. Does anyone know if this is a icewm problem or a Slackware problem?

GreenFireFly 08-05-2015 12:00 PM

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to update on some thing i found.

Icewm 1.2.38pre2 works fine. This issue starts to happen with icewm 1.3.0 at least for me on nvidia proprietary driver.

GreenFireFly 08-05-2015 01:19 PM

Hello Everyone,

I think it maybe the found here that's causes the issue.

_gin 08-06-2015 09:59 AM

There's a fork of icewm in github branded as icewm-1.3.10

Did you give It a try?

NB: You might as well ask them about your problem...

GreenFireFly 08-06-2015 02:06 PM

Hello _gin,

Tried icewm-1.3.10 and it still has the title bar is transparent issue with the nvidia proprietary driver. But thanks i
will try to see if i can get a hold of them.
