I will Like to install slackware
I will love to install slackware, but I'm a little afraid, not because slack is for gurus, it's because i still have some doubts, for example right now i have already try out distros like Mandrake, RedHat, Suse, Conectiva, and their all well very simple to install, they almost configure all for you, I have already try knoppix too and install it, my problem is configuring X windows Manager I don't know if in slackware you have to configure windows manager, but for the reason that slack is the most Unix like I supposed you have to configure X it have never work me out configuring X no matter if i put my vertical sync range, or horizontal, or mouse description or my video card, it just doesn't work out for me, does any slackware user could tell me if you really have to configure X in slackware or there are other way to do it? Because i can't configure the ordinary way, please help..

Slackware 9.1 does a fairly good attempt of configuring X for you. Anything special will need tweaking (wheelmouse, TV card etc) but it should be usable with the slack config.

"You are a princess"!
Where I can read a manual of installation in I measure grafico |
I don't have a wheel mouse :) or any special issues, I have a normal PS/2 mouse, and a trident generic video card, I know how to manage fdisck stuff or anything about my network, my problem is still the X config manager, but if slackware try to detect all of that for me I will be very happy, and i would install it :)

http://slackware.com/install/ http://stio1.fh-wuerzburg.de/student...F86Config.html http://www.xfree86.org/4.1.0/XF86Config.5.html little_ball I think you will be just fine installing Slackware and letting the installer set up your X gui |
oK I WILL try it, if i have some kind of problem i will request for some help, i do want to use something more Unix like instead of playing around whit mandrake or redhat. Thanks.. let see how it goes...

much joy and grievence in linux box working... many many moons... I do like wanting distributions that give diversity in complicated unix help ideas.

Please let us know how it goes...we are here to help if things get goofy ;)

One command I find a godsend to help setting up X that is rarely documented is:
./xf86cfg -textmode |
Little_ball, if you have an existing Linux distro installed, take a look at your current /etc/X11/XF86Config file and pay close attention to the Input Devices sections (keyboard, mouse and vidcard) Write down what's uncommented and if you have any problems with setting up X with slack, you have a reference to check to see if there are any changes that need to be made.

Hell yeah !!! :D I haven't think of that before, I think that will help a lot ralph. Yes i do have Mandrake and RedHAt installed right now, i will copy the conf file and this Monday i will install Slackware, let see how it goes, I think it will work maybe that way mi slack will run X window, if it doesn't i will comment my problem to you all, I hope everything works fine, let see till Monday.

Thank you Guys, it work fine I did have to configure the X windows manager, but instead of searching for that i copy the xfc86config, of Mandrake and Redhat and applied it to slackware, it works just fine. Very Nice distro, most unix like. I think is lovely.
