Hey,
I just installed slackware 10.0. I am running apache webserver. I also need a mail server. I want to run webserver for my friends and family members. So they can log in to the mail accounts using pop3 clients like outlook express. I was using Workgroup mail server for windows xp. Its website is http://www.workgroupmail.com. I need a mail server like that one. I searched internet but i didn't find one like that. If u have windows plz try it, and help me. I hope u guys understand what i am saying. I need a mail server which is easy to use and easy to install and configure. Thanks in advance.
Um, I could be wrong here, and easy is a relative term, but I think that if you want a mail server which is easy to use and easy to install and configure, you are out of luck. They all see mt otake some reading, tweaking, learning, and getting used to. I have a guide to setting up Sendmail, http://shilo.is-a-geek.com/slack/sendmail18.html , that you might find useful. I really like running Sendmail that way and installing SquirrelMail ( http://squirrelmail.org/ ). That way, you can have webmail, or use the pop3 or imap servers.
Uncomment the imapd line in /etc/inetd.conf to enable imap, which is easily accessed from other boxes using an imap capable mail client. (mozilla mail works, as do most) This assumes the default sendmail install, I guess.
I would suggest Qmail as your mail server. Check it out at http://www.qmail.org. There is a great set of instructions for installing and configuring the Qmail mail server at http://www.lifewithqmail.org.
