I want apply only security patches for my Slackware 12 box
Hi all,
I have a Linux box running Slackware 12 on it and I would like to apply the most recent security patches. Is there any tool which automatically downloads and install the security patches? Thanks, Julix |
I thought slackpkg could be used to do this, but I honestly have never used it. I am simply subscribed to the security mailing list, so I get an email whenever a patch is released. You can pretty much just go to the patches directory and install all the packages.
Do note, however, that when you upgrade some of the packages using the patches that you may have to restart some daemons (or you can just reboot). One of the patches is for the kernel, so after installing that you must rerun lilo. I recommend looking at that package before installing it to make sure you know what it is doing. Check the security advisories page for specific installation instructions on the packages. |
Yeah, I also subscribe to the security mailing list.
Once you have downloaded all of the patches that you want to your download directory you can cd into it and install them all with this command: #upgradepkg *.tgz You will need to run lilo as previously mentioned for your kernel patch. |
slackpkg works great for this, though I wouldn't install kernel stuff with it.
