apache + php + mysql is the best 4 now..

Gay m8...

Personally I prefer PostgreSQL over MySQL
because of transaction safety and the speed
caveat for that not too high, either :} PLUS
postgres isn't semi-commercial but free software ;)

You can download even sybase free or oracle ( i am not sure if it is free.)
They are pretty easy to install and run. And plus you get full fleged RDBMS.

Tinkster 04-28-2002 06:43 PM

welp m8 ... I reckon you're not gonna get source for
Sybase, Oracle OR even MySQL, whereas you DO get
it for PostgreSQL. And Postrges has been around for
so long, it is full-fledged too :P

http://www.postgresql.org/ ... just in case you haven't
been there yet.

Cheers,

Tink

P.S.: The fact that you can download it doesn't necessarily
make it free software ;)

SQL

What's this nonsense about not getting the source to MySQL?
MySQL is a semi-commercial enterprise, but so isn't that distribution you're running. I've nothing against Postgre, but let's not start spreading around non-truths.

The source for MySQL can be obtained at:
http://www.mysql.com/downloads/mysql-3.23.html

You can get Oracle for free at www.oracle.com/linux

I've just downloaded and am going to attempt to install. It's 3-cd's worth of install files.

man i dont think my 8gb hd can handle all of that.

pickledbeans 07-01-2002 12:31 PM

MySQl is completly free and opensourse.
The comment about semi-free was put to rest a couple of
years ago.
