I find it short-sighted and irresponsible to categorically state "you NEED an initrd". That is simply NOT true. You only NEED an initrd IF you encrypt your file system. Most people only need to support their filesystem with a built-in kernel driver instead of in loadable module form. One lousy checkbox and all the complexity of initrd is gone and totally unnecessary. I'm not saying mkinitrd is difficult, just that it is one more set of steps for concerns and errors that need not be allowed.

Without commenting on the usefulness of the posted info, it is worth pointing out that these are replies to an 8 year comatose thread.

It might be better to open a new thread if you have a new problem or more recent information.
