I made a mistake :(

I recently recompiled a new kernel(turning off support for stuff I don't need), and now, my sound does not work, along with my battery monitor. I have attempted to reinstall Alsa, but it cannot find any kernel modules for my sound card. The sound module it fails to load is "snd-via82xx", and my sound card is, in fact, a VIA 82xx.

If you have 2.6 kernel recompile it with alsa support. For 2.4 kernel recompile alsa.

I did recompile Alsa, it failed by not being able to stat four files which I have forgotten. I will try again, but no guarantees.

Ok, I don't know why these files are missing.
Code:
cp: cannot stat `snd-page-alloc.o': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `snd-pcm.o': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `snd-rawmidi.o': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `snd-timer.o': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `snd.o': No such file or directory
Also, it's as if all my sound modules are gone, along with my ACPI stuff.

Dirty way: Put all alsa stuff as module. You won't break anything and you won't overload your system. This is what distro's default kernel do.

How would I go about doing that? By the way, I also have a new error when trying to install alsa-driver. I'll try to get a log.

make menuconfig or make xconfig and look for Sound section and put a tick on all ALSA modules. Save and start building your kernel image. This way, you don't need to install any new ALSA driver, but make sure you install alsa-lib, alsa-oss, and alsa-utils

I'm running kernel 2.4.31, Slackware 10.2 of course. 2.4 doesn't have ALSA built-in...

For the battery monitor you should look in ACPI options

For 2,4, you need to recompile alsa drivers after kernel recompile. 2.6 has them built inside the kernel (you can use them as modules or compile into the kernel, but you must check them).

If you are using lower than 1.0.10 version, try upgrading because there were some problems with lower versions. Maybe yours is one of those.
