This is all very strange because I was conscious that I was on a dream. So I quickly tried to gather most info that I could, and the first was the date.
I was typing on a laptop not manufactured at this time, oddly I don't recall the brand. On the year of 2029. Slackware init system was runit, I can tell for sure because I'm playing with it in another distro. I do recall xwmconfig and kde still there (what makes me think that the blue menu driven installation is still present) ha.. and xfce was still alive!! and there was other 4 ou 5 DE's surely from the future coz i don't know 'em.
I wanted to get into slackpkg (it was what crossed my mind, idk why) but it was so hard to focus, it was like paddling against a tide of concrete, breath and try not to wake up. tks
Any news about RMS? He'd be a real patriarch by then.
haa! rms in 2029 is the leader of a paramilitary organization which i think is FSF merged with US Green Party with headquarters in California, don't ask me how but that future organization controls 1/4 of California. He also started a huge purge of coders/developers which where not in accordance with his sacred free as in freedom guidelines. He actually holds Linus in a unknown location, one of his gnulags.
I am dreaming of Slackware being the leader of the pack since 1993! Slackware has introduced too most new users to a the best UNIX like Gnu/Linux. I remember when PV first intro of the finest Gnu/Linux available. That is until everyone wanted a turnkey distro. My positions as a mod has seen the change to who can and will want to learn a Gnu/Linux. Not everyone wants a hold your hand distribution.
Myself, I wish to know what the system is doing when and where! Not to wipe my A$$ but to keep a good reliable system operating over time!
Lately, I have seen more members wanting a system that just works without their intervention. So will Slackware become a turnkey or hold your hand distro? I personally do not think PV will move from the UNIX like distribution that has Slackware at the forefront.
So things just work! Slackware is one Gnu/Linux that requires you to understand the model and not so thin, like everyone else but to take it beyond what most people are thinking or doing!
I love this quote to show what a true Slackware user will most likely think;
Quote:
"Knowledge is of two kinds. We Know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information upon it."- Samuel Johnson
Samuel was not aware of Slackware at the time but understood the philosophy of the future needs of a person in a personal way!
Take it or leave it!
I personally worked with UNIX and found the means to meet my needs with a Gnu/Linux that happens to be Slackware. Many thanks to PV & team!
Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

I am quite sure that PV will continue to maintain Slackware in its present Unix-like state. I like and also use the BSDs; Slackware feels like home.
I am really looking forward to the upcoming upgrade cycle when 15.0 is released (I'm retired and have time on my hands, heh-heh).

Same here actually. I remember distro hopping for years between 2007-2011, then settled on FreeBSD for about 2 years or so, and pretty much fell in love with it. Ironically i had never run Slackware before then, and since trying out Slack, i've felt like it's the closest thing to FreeBSD in the Linux world. Certainly feels like home!
