theabcasian,

No need to feel stupid. This is a problem with the Slackware 12.2 install. It's been encountered by at least four people I know of, including myself.

I don't know the exact problem, but it relates to the "huge" kernel (used in the Slackware install process) somehow misidentifying your hardware and hanging. I know that on my system, if I compile a custom kernel that omits the SCSI low level drivers, it won't hang on boot.

Since the Slackware 12.2 install is done only with one of the huge kernels, I don't know of an easy workaround that lets you complete the Slackware 12.2 install.

If you're sophisticated enough to get 12.2 installed on some other computer, compile a custom kernel that omits the SCSI low level drivers, and then clone that customized Slackware installation to your tablet system, you can try that. That's what I did, but it wasn't a simple process that's easy to describe.

There was a thread on the "Adaptec hang" problem earlier:

The Slackware 12.1 software does not exhibit the "Adaptec hang" problem. I'm hoping the problem goes away in the next release of Slackware.
