I can't install vmware on Slackware13

Hi, i tried to install VMware 6.5 on Slackware but there is a error showing during the installation:

unable to build kernel module
See the log file /tmp/vmware-root/setup-5139.log for details
Log file /tmp/vmware-root/setup-5139.log is:

Nov 23 22:33:03.522: app| Log for VMware Workstation pid=5193 version=6.5.2 build=build-156735 option=Release
Nov 23 22:33:03.522: app| Host codepage=ISO-8859-1 encoding=ISO-8859-1
Nov 23 22:33:03.522: app| Logging to /tmp/vmware-root/setup-5193.log
Nov 23 22:33:09.626: app| Extracting the sources of the vmmon module.
Nov 23 22:33:09.828: app| Building module with command: /usr/bin/make -C /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmmon-only auto-build SUPPORT_SMP=1 HEADER_DIR=/lib/modules/ CC=/usr/bin/gcc GREP=/usr/bin/make IS_GCC_3=no VMCCVER=4.3.3

What is problem. Do i need kernel headers installed or what? I installed Slackware in full mode, whole DVD. Can anyone help me?

I never installed vmware so I can't help, BUT I installed virtualbox (an opensource equivalent) from I hope this helps. If you go this path, read carefully the README files, and it needs patience, but it works.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem and it's because VMWare wasn't built for the kernel version Slackware uses, 2.6.29. There's a patch mentioned in the Archlinux or VMWare forums under I haven't tried it yet, but I will soon.

The only problem with VirtualBox is DirectX support is new and spotty in comparison to VMWare--don't know if this would be a problem for you or not.

What you need, is the vmware-any-any-<version> patch.

Google for it.
