i can't open the root folder or "computer"...

for some reason my desktop lockes up... and the folders on my desktop dissappear. im running Slackware 10.1 with dropline gnome (latest version also)... is there a reason why my desktop lockes up when i try to click on computer or the root folder? it even does it from the gnome menu. all other programs seem to work fine though, thanks.

Have you already tried to login as root in GUI? Then perhaps your links are all messed up. Try opening root with mc. If you can then I'm right about links

mc - Midnight Commander
DO NOT ROOT in GUI! You mess all permissions and links not talking about reducing security to level of windows.
reLogin as user
open console
#su
[password]
#mc
go to root directory and open it

yeah, but that doesn't really fix my problem... when i go to my desktop in that program, i still don't see "computer" and "root", i just see the my screen shot that i took and my network places, which doesn't seem to open up either

of course it does! with mc you can see what link path is it pointing to. I mean when you select your shortcut "my computer" it tells you the the linkpath. Recreate shortcuts and links
