Hylafax on Slack 10.1

Hi there,

I would like to set up a SOHO server. Most of the things I need for that are already working, but I still need a fax solution. Hylafax is good, but it's also a beast I was able to get it running on SuSE several times in the past.

Has anyone installed Hylafax on recent versions of Slackware? Is there anything Slackware specific I should watch for?

Thanks!

I used efax-gtk with good results in Slack 10.0. It is not a sophisticated fax front end but it does support the class 1 faxes that are found on LTmodems. It is relatively easy to install.

I've got Hylafax installed on a Slackware 9.1 server at the office and it's happily serving 4 fax lines. It's no biggie to install, if you follow the how-to on the Hylafax website you should be fine. The instructions are pretty comprehensive. There aren't any Slackware specific things to look for, really.
The only thing that kept me busy for a while was the fact that I forgot to install meta-mail, which you need if you're going to be e-mailing the faxes to your users.

Ok, I have Hylafax up and running. It can send and receive faxes. You were right, it's not at all difficult, to get there, although Hylafax is such a powerful beast.

One of my next steps will be to configure adaptive answer support. If you have this in your configuration, too, I'd be grateful for a little help, mainly regarding the (fax)getty params.

From former installations on SuSE systems I recall that the getty parameters were quite different than mentioned in the Hylafax documentation. SuSE uses mgetty, while Slackware has agetty. On SuSE it was something like this:

GettyArgs: "-r -b -s %s %l"

But this will probably not work on Slackware without mgetty...

To be honest, it is unclear to me how the parameters described in the man pages of the various getty programs correspond to the GettyArgs parameters of Hylafax. Therefore I am unable to conclude what set of params will work on Slack...

Thanks!

Just noticed that there is now a ready-made Hylafax package available at LinuxPackages.net. Nice. Although I don't know why that package thinks that faxgetty should go into /usr/lib/bin instead of /usr/local/bin.
