The new release is confirmed to work here too. I got an email from Hulu Support a couple hours ago that referred to this release as 0.9.3 and that the login should be fixed. I let them know that it works now.
I just saw this, downloaded the X86_64 rpm, used src2pkg, edited ~/.huludesktop, and was up and running within seconds. Very nice! Too bad its time for bed.
I updated to 0.9.3. I haven't created a hulu account so I am not testing the login.
I tried to watch a program but the episode would not load. I deleted the null file $HOME/.macromedia, which I created long ago because I don't like the idea of flash cookie tracking. After deleting the file the episodes then loaded. I do not have that problem with Firefox.
I did not find the user interface easy to use. Certain options, such as stop, exit, toggle full screen, etc. should be readily available. Those options eventually appeared for me but only after I pressed the pause button.
Then there is the idea that the latest episode of The Office starts playing automatically. I don't watch that series and don't like having any episode shoved down my throat or wasting my bandwidth. Again, not a problem with the more clunky interface of the web browser.
I do not like not being able to create my own local favorites list. Creating a hulu account might provide certain advantages, such as a queue list, but a local favorites list is more palatable to me.
I suppose I should share these observations at the hulu forum.
Is there any advantage to the desktop tools versus just watching an episode on the web site with the flash player?
Integrates better on my TV
Huludesktop is more of a stand alone application perhaps geared towards an HTPC. Something a person would use for full time watching, rather a clip here or there while sitting at their desk.
