.httpd The requested URL was not found on this server

Hi I have a problem with my apache server.
http://localhost works, it displays "It works"
localhost/info.php works and even phpmyadmin, but when I try to put any kind of html or php file and connect to it, I receive this message:
The requested URL "http://localhost/test.html" was not found on this server.
I belive I configured somethig wrong when I installed phpmyadmin, but I don't know what, so, please I need help.

Where did you put the file? What is your document root set as under /etc/httpd/httpd.conf? I think by default it is /svr/httpd/htdocs. Also check the permissions so that the others category can read it (minimum of 644).

The file is in /var/www/test.html
In my /etc/httpd/httpd.conf I have: DocumentRoot "/srv/httpd/htdocs"
I have got this. Instead putting html or php files in /var/www, I have to put them in /srv/httpd/htdocs. I did not know that.
Thanks for your help.

I think Pat still has a symlink set up for /var/www/htdocs, but yes, it does need to be put in the htdocs folder unless you change the document root in the httpd.conf.

Better change the document root in httpd.conf to another directory, so upgrade httpd package may be cleaner
