httpd service not starting... F$CK!!!
Installed Slack 8.1, mainly as an SSH/Web/FTP/E-Mail server. Everything was working fine, until today. HTTPD does not start at startup. I have NO idea wtf happened.

No big deal, though, right? Just /etc/rc.d/rc.httpd start .... Run top and ps aux, and nothing. So, I /etc/rc.d/rc.httpd restart, but get message "httpd (no pid file) not running". So now I'm at a loss.

Here, btw, is the rc.httpd:

# Start the Apache web server

case "$1" in
/usr/sbin/apachectl start ;;
/usr/sbin/apachectl stop ;;
/usr/sbin/apachectl restart ;;
echo "usage $0 start|stop|restart" ;;

So, I bow before you, oh Slackware gurus, and ask for insight, and mercy upon my newbie soul...

xgtr, out...

Try restarting it and then:

tail /var/log/apache/error_log

That'll start you on what's wrong. Bad virtual host, cross binding ports... first thing you might want to do though if you haven't already is upgrade to apache 1.3.26 from the patches section of slackware's download site.
