So, it just won't recognize it ? At what step do things not work ? When the computer boots there should be two hplip services that startup, each one should give '[ Ok ]' status. Do they ?

If you mean hpiod and hpssd, yes the both report "ok" on boot up.
Not sure what you mean by things not work?
Xsane works, the printer works, but neither are recognized by hp-setup. I would like to use HPs software to run the scanner, not Xsane, as Xsane doesn't do a very good job and it does it very slow. I would hate to think that everytime I want a scan to look like what was scanned, I have to boot to XP to do it. I must be missing something somewhere?
Thanks.
What exactly do you select there ? How is the printer hooked up ? Is it USB ? Just tell me what you do, so maybe I can try to see if you're doing something wrong. I mean by the look of it, hplip has been installed correctly ... so I'm betting CUPS is not configured right.

It is set up there as what it is, a HPDeskJet 940c on a lp0.
I'm getting confused here. While hp-setup does not see any hp devices attached, the printer works. KDE actually did the setup in CUPS, but I checked it by going to http://localhost:631, where it says, "Description: HP DeskJet 940C hpijs
Location: /dev/lp0"
So, what do I have to do, to get the scanner to work using the hp software?
Many Thanks. You have been very patient and it is appreciated.
Thx.

Never seen a printer than could scan, unless it is one of those "all-in-one" office products.
An idea I've never liked by the way. One part breaks down and your out the entire unit while it being repaired.
I have two separate items, a HP Deskjet 940c printer and a HP Scanner 3570c.
Thanks.
Here is the man page for the driver you require. The driver comes with the sane package that is part of slack 11.0, which you should already have installed. Hope this may help:
But it is "The backend has been included in the SANE backends package since version 1.0.18." So if you have this latest version, then it should work. It's status is rated as 'good' but not 'complete'.
