hpiod problem

I have just installed the latest edition of HPLIP and CUPS from the slackware packages site. However upon reboot now i get the [Failed] indication for hpiod. i thought i remembered reading somewhere that hpiod was replaced in one of the newer versions. is there anyway to get rid of the annoying little bit on startup or make sure it starts up the new daemon instead of the old one?
Thanks.
