Anyone got WINE to work in Slackware63 13.0--maybe with Office 2007? I even made a drive 'D:' in winecfg but when i did 'wine setup.exe' it said setup had a problem.

Wine works perfectly well with Slackware64-13.0, you can even compile it. Remember it is a 32-bit program and you will have to install the 32-bit compatibility libraries.

Is there some trick in slackware 13, I installed wine like before but nothing will even attempt to install just says

Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded.
Make sure that your X server is running and that $DISPLAY is set correctly.

It sounds like you are running it as root. It is set up not to do that, thought it does not tell you. I still do not know the answer to my Office 2007 problem....

I have wine working with Slackware 13.0. Wine 1.1.29 is buggy, but 1.1.28 works fine. I don't run Office on it but all of these work: 3D Home Architect, ABBYY Fine Read, Astrolog32, Atlantis Nova, XnView, and Adobe Audition 1.5.

Just clicking on the setup.exe icon should start the setup for you.

I managed to get Sonic Riders working properly without any additional tweaks.

What does not work is wine64 in pure 64bit mode thus without 32bit compatibility layer. It wants a more recent gcc version..

To me it makes little sense to install a 32bit guest application on a 32bit wine when there at least in my cases are 64bit alternatives available. (except for the fact that wine64 doesn't compile on slackware 13 ofcourse.. )

Installed wine as per Alien Bob's instructions and it worked perfectly fine... great job, thanks for that :-)

Using Slack 13 64bit, compiled my wine from Slackbuilds (v. 1.1.24). I'm running Photoshop 7, Miranda, Myphone explorer, and few older win* games. Mr. Alien helped me too:)
Thnx.

I got Wine working now, seems to be some bug in how that $DISPLAY variable is set. if I have been su - t root at any time and su - back to me it doesn't work, but if I try from a fresh Konsole having never su - to root and back to me it works. Seems like its not setting that variable back properly like it used to so even though I'm switching back to me the display isn't.
