how to weak up console (monitor and/or keyboard)

Hi all.
sshd died on a production server running Slackware 10.2 with 2.6.11 custom kernel. Everything else is running fine, but now I can't login to restart sshd. I tried to connect monitor and keyboard, but the screen remains in stand-by and does not wake pressing a key. Is there any key combination (other than CTRL-BREAK, ALT-Fx I just tried) to wake up the console? No Power saving utility is installed and, as far I remember, only basic apm support was built into the kernel. I would not hardware reset the system (an IBM X-series) and bring down all services...

I'm not aware of any key combinations to wake monitor in console. Usually if apm/acpi is installed you just hit any key.

With no access through keyboard, ssh or serial console, it looks like your only option is a hard reset. I may be wrong though.

Ctrl + Alt + Backspace will normally crash X

But is it even taking keyboard input? Does the numlock light come on when you press the numlock key?

I don't think he's running X - just console.

Have you tried type in command to restart sshd blind just to see if keyboard is working?

Have you tried using SysRq? Holding down the right-ALT and the SysRq key, then simultaneously hitting the following command keys "r-e-i-s-u-b" should reboot your system somewhat safely (your system might even recover after just the "r" and "e" keys).

Thanks all.
I had to hard reboot. The problem was that 457 days ago the server was turned on or rebooted without a keyboard attached. IBM bios seems to completely disable unused PS/2 ports, so when I tried to attach the keyboard it was not powered on. Slack 10.2 was born without hald, so a USB keyboard could not be automatically configured...
Regards
