How to use patch file

Hi, I'm trying to get my ipw2200 wireless working with the driver here. There was an error during make, so I discovered a patch (on that same page) that is supposed to fix it. My question is, how to I use a patch? It's simply a text file, it looks like a script of some kind although apparently not for stand-alone execution (I tried this...). So what do I do with it?

The usual is ' patch -p0 < name_of_patch '
Depending on the patch it may use -p1 or -p2

Hope this helps.
