how to upgrade slackware 13.0 to 13.1

is there a way to upgrade from 13.0 using slackpkg or something more simpler?

Every release of Slackware has a file named "UPGRADE.TXT" on the disc that explains how to upgrade from a previous release. The upgrade instructions for Slackware 13.1 can be downloaded here.

With slackpkg. All you have to do is point the mirror file to a 13.1 mirror. Id read CHANGES_AND_HINTS.TXT if i were you beforehand though.

should i upgrade my kernel first? im using 2.6.29.6-smp kernel.

I'd do what UPGRADE.TXT says, but using slackpkg.

And if you are using slackpkg for the 13.0 -> 13.1 upgrade, the first thing to do is upgrade the slackpkg package itself or you'll have a nasty surprise half-way the upgrade process.

thanks.. right now im updating may kernel to 2.6.36 then update my slackpkg

when upgrading my kernel from 2.6.2 to 2.6.36 i followed this link http://www.gidforums.com/t-1990.html all the way to the configuring the lilo and running /sbin/lilo command to add the new kernel.. but when restarting why cant i see the new kernel.. when running

/sbin/lilo

it returned a message saying that Linux2 was added.. can anyone help?

What about unofficial packages? Do they need to be rebuilt? Unofficial packages should be compatible with new versions of libraries but I never had the experience of upgrading a whole Slackware so I am not so sure about this.

There is certainly no guarantee that software compiled against the older libraries will work as expected, or at all, with newer libraries. Forward compatibility is never certain.

Once all of the official packages are updated, you will need to check out each unofficial package manually to see if it still works properly or if you get any errors.

Are you on Slackware at all? Slackware never had a 2.6.2 kernel;

Also provide more information than "it does not work" since we do not have crystal balls in this forum.

At least post the contents of your /etc/lilo.conf as well as the output of "ls -la /boot".
