How to upgrade 14.2 to the -current
What's the steps I should follow to upgrade my 14.2 to the slack-current? Is that safe to only download and upgrade every package under x/ and xap/ directories?
Thanks in advance. |

I meant to paste this link instead of the first one, but now I see the second article will link to it in step 5.

Expect breakage. Many system libraries have changed from 14.2 to current. You'll probably save yourself headaches by just reinstalling any SBo packages. Also note slackbuild scripts for 14.2 will be hit and miss on current, check ponce's stickied thread before starting.
Good luck! |

Er, I think you meant when will Slackware 15 come out? I refuse to guess, and there's threads for that already ; - )

You can track development by reading the Slackware-current changelog. http://slackware.osuosl.org/slackwar.../ChangeLog.txt |
you're probably going to have to redo a few of your slackbuilds, Most of what I installed work, VLC yes, good idea to get the current version.
switching from stable to current is not really hard, its more time consuming, having to download everything and replacing it. make sure stable is updated. change mirror sight to a current sight update ( gpg even, I do just to play it safe) install-new upgrade-all done. |

I did a fully upgrading to the -current, but things were getting to very worse. System cannot reboot, in X, the mouse cannot move, the nouveau driver still prevent X from staring if w/o a nomodeset passed to it ... Then I gave up and did a fresh install back to 14.42 original. I spent several hours to reinstall my system as well as those SBo's. It's a bad experience :(

If you are asking how to upgrade from 14.2 to -current, then i suppose you are not ready yet to move on to -current. It's not a bad experience, but bad practice of not doing some research and getting used to do it in Slackware's way :)
