I don't think it's recommended (or even possible to upgrade from 12.0 to 13.1). It'd be better if you installed a fresh 13.1 system.
btw, all signs show that Slackware 13.2 could be released VERY, VERY soon. My prediction (based on tea leaves) is March.
You might want to wait a few weeks and install a fresh and shiny 13.2.
It seems there is no way to update? You know, reinstall a system would task someone upto half an hour. and, im not sure the frequent reinstallations are hurtful to the hard disk or not.

The differences between packages versions are too big.
If it was possible to update from 12 to 13.1, you'd probably have to upgrade every single package. Slackware 12.0 was released in 2007!
For that reason, I don't think it makes much difference for the hard drive whether you update it or reinstall.
If I were you, I'd wait for 13.2 and do a fresh install.
I agree. Given the huge changes between 12.0-----> 13.1 I would do a fresh install after you back up your stuff. Yeah, I would wait a bit as 13.2 *may* be coming in the next little while.
I've done a 12.1 or 12.2 to 13.1 upgrade and from 12.0 is certainly possible, but it requires taking into account any differences from *all* versions in between (you can't just read UPGRADE.TXT and CHANGES_AND_HINTS.TXT from 13.1 and expect to upgrade from 12.0 without any problems). You can try it if you like, but if you don't know what you're doing it will probably take just as long as a fresh install (provided you back up any important data).

Im not a expert, so, reinstallation is the only choice.
thanks
