how to unblock YouTube in China under slackware
 

Hi,I am in slackware now and I want to know how to freely unblock YouTube in China .As I am now a student ,I have no that much money to pay VPN service.So I need a free solution. HELP!!!

I hate to say this, and I'm not saying what you should or shouldn't do, but even if we don't agree with Chinese laws, such as blocking multimedia websites and such...

The laws of whatever country you reside in, regardless of how you feel about them, need to be obeyed and adhered to to show you are a responsible citizen of your country, or you are respecting the laws of the country you are currently visiting. If China says YouTube is blocked for whatever legal reasons they give, even if they seem ass backwards, accept it, or go to another country where the laws are different. Breaking laws for personal gain is something I will not help you do, and I would expect the same out of any other members of the LQ community.

This works for me:

1. Install tor and vidalia from Slackbuilds.org. Do not forget to read the README and install the deps and create tor group and user as instructed
2. Add your non-priviliged user to the tor group
3. Do NOT start /etc/rc.d/rc.tor
4. Log out and in again
5. Start Vidalia
6. Download and install the tor plugin from https://www.torproject.org/torbutton/index.html.en
7. Enable the tor plugin and restart firefox

For some reason, vidalia-0.2.19 is giving me permission errors, but vidalia-0.2.17 works

Or you can try goagent. It works really well on my slackware. You can ealily get details from google.

On an ethical side note,
hgdcjq being a student, is an adult responsible for his actions.
We do no better preventing the passing on of knowledge, than the Chinese Government does by blocking information.
A mere provision of "here are the dangers, here is the knowledge" is all we should do.

I have helped people like the OP throughout the years, and will not stop doing so. However, using public forums is a bit tricky - not for me but for the people requesting help.
