How to stop udisks1 keep on polling for smart data ?

Hi,

I am using slackware 14.1, and it has the following udisks tools installed:

udisks-1.0.4-i486-2
udisks2-2.1.3-i486-1_slack14.1

I have a portable harddisk plugged in last week, and due to some unknown reason, it's hang now. I could not unmount it because it complains device being busy. I found out there is process keep trying to access it every hour, I found out it to be this:

Code:
udisks-helper-ata-smart-collect /dev/sde 1
and all those process now go into state 'D' (there are more than 300 state D of this same process now), due to there is problem with the harddisk. Now I couldn't kill those 'udisks-helper-ata-smart-collect' process due to they are in state 'D'. I found out this command come from the package 'udisks-1.0.4-i486-2'. Now my questions are:

1) I searched in the net and understand we could write a udev rules to stop the frequent polling from the udisks. But I couldn't find the exact rules to do that, does anybody have a success on doing that ? If yes what is the exact command at which file? How do I do that for both udisks1 and udisks2 ?

2) out of curiosity, I can't find udisk1 or udisk2 being started in /etc/rc.d/ , so how does that being triggered in the background in the first place ? I confirm udisk1 is running because of that 'udisks-helper-ata-smart-collect' now keep creating state 'D' process in my load queue. And I confirm udisk2 is running as well as I could see 'udisksd[3205]: udisks daemon version 2.1.3 starting' in my /var/log/messages

3) why there are both version of udisks installed in Slackware ? They are in the 'a/' folder of the packages list. (udisks1 is using udisks,udisks-daemon, while udisks2 is using udisksctl, udisksd)

I know I could reboot the machine, but I want to avoid this from happening again.

Any help on this will be appreciated!

Have you tried this one.

You can try this, or clear the executable bit of udisks-helper-ata-smart-collect before reboot.

Hope this helps.
