how to stop cups from looking for printers

hi all,

when i use the cups web interface to add a printer (administration -> add printer) cups starts looking for printers on the network. how do i make sure it does not do this (this annoys the switches at work and my port gets disabled)?

Not sure if this is what you seek:

Open the CUPS web interface (http://localhost:631/).
Select "Adding Printers and Classes."
In the "Server Settings" section (right side of page), disable "Show printers shared by other systems."
Select the Change Settings button.

This is probably the same as Woodsman's answer:
Change to 'Browsing Off' in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.
