how to set up a slackware gateway

hi all,

I have at home a computer which I intend to turn into a server which will perform me a number of tasks such as:
.JEE server (running JBoss or Tomcat);
.LAMP server;
.file server;
.local rsync mirror, and others.

Intend to access this box remotely (ssh, remote terminal, whatever).

I already set up a DMZ rule on my router to an IP that I'll asign to my server: 192.168.1.100.

My computer is an Athlon64 3500+ with 1Gb RAM (I can upgrade that if need be). Its mother board has a gigabit ethernet adapter from Marvell. Also I installed a 3Com ethernet adapter.

I just made a full installation of Slackware 12.1 on it and haven't tweaked a bit.

My questions are:
1) how do I tell Slackware which adapter is eth0 and which is eth1? I mean to use the 3Com PCI (10/100) adapter as eth0 and the Marvell (10/100/1000) as eth1.
2) how do I configure Slackware to act as a gateway?

I'll probably have a lot more questions regarding this, but will work on them myself first!

Thanks for now!

Gustavo

The term "gateway" is rather vague. You already have a router, so I take it that you don't want to actually put this machine between all the clients and the Internet.

Are you just asking how to go about setting up the services you have listed?

Hi,

You could look at 'Linux Home Networking' to get some insight. You could look at the 'Network' section of 'Slackware-Links'. More than just SlackwareŽ links!

Guys,

Thanks for the replies!

MS3FGX, I understand the term gateway is indeed rather vague. For the moment I intend to use this slackware box to test the services I mentioned.

onebuck, thanks for the links!
