Question How to save part of an audio file?

I've downloaded a free audio file, and there's a piece of music at the end that I'd like to save separately. mp3
IIRC I did this a few months ago from cli, but cannot find any notes I might have made or urls in bookmarks. I think there was a web page which showed how to do it.
Doing it required defining the beginning time in the audio track and the end time.

Advice please, I've been looking for this for days.

Try audacity ( ). Its excellent tool for audio editing. It has easy to use user interface. The default o/p is in ogg or wav format. But if you want the o/p in mp3 format, then installing lame solves the problem.

There's also mp3splt - I've used it a few times as a command line utility (there is a gui but I haven't used it) and it works fine.
