It happened to me a loooong time ago
(bad glibc upgrade)
I first fixed it temporarily with booting from the
second CD, mount the hard drive root partition
in /mnt/hd and :

cp /lib/libc-2.3.2.so /mnt/hd/lib
chroot /mnt/hd
cd lib
ln -s libc-2.3.2.so libc.so.6
reboot
Of course, libc-2.3.2.so may not exactly match
with your system CD, find it with booting from the
CD and : ls -al /lib/libc.so.6
When the system boot fine, you can then upgrade
glibc package
