how to reinstall windows without touching Slack

I've got one hd on which I've installed windows XP and then Slackware 9.1; now I need to reinstall windows, but I don't want to lose lilo menu on boot; lilo is installed in MBR of the hd (hda);

reading some previous posts I've figured out, that i need to backup MBR using DD command, install windows and then restore lilo to MBR, somehow

my question is: how?

just don't tell me I have to install Slack once again, please!

As long as you're able to boot to Slack there's no problem. Install Windows, boot from a Slackware boot floppy/cdrom and rerun lilo again as root. It will overwrite the MBR and you will have your lilo back.

Install Windows. Then boot into your Slackware using a boot floppy or any other rescue disk. Run /sbin/lilo

If you boot from a rescue disk, first chroot /dev/hd?? where ?? is specific to the partition where Slackware is installed. For me it is /dev/hdb1.

After you install Win, boot with the cd, and add these options: 'noinitrd root=<your-lin-partition-here>' This'll boot Slack, then you can rerun lilo.

hcyazar,
Try posting a seperate thread with more detail (like what do you mean by 'not read').
