ive just installed slackware 10 and i start up and get to the command line, i know that typing gdm gets gnome, but what is the command for kde?, ive used red hat 8 and suse 8 and slackware seams harder 2 just get running.
vengefuldeath87, you can run: xwmconfig as root to choose the default window manager, and startx to run X from the command line (it'll load the wm chosen by xwmconfig).
If you want to get into X at boot change your runlevel to 4 in /etc/inittab as he suggested.
Typing in KDM as root will start the KDE login manager. If you want it to start at boot, just change the runlevel in the /ec/inittab file to 4, instead of the default 3. And then to use KDM instead of GDM, open up the /etc/rc.d/rc.4 file and either comment out the lines that start GDM, or put the lines that start KDM first.
