how to install the ATI graphic/video drivers in slackware?

hello!

thanks!

The latest ATI driver has a nice graphical installer so installing shouldn't be a problem.

1. Download the latest driver from ATI.com
2. Install the driver:
Code:

sh ati-driver-installer-8.16.20-i386.run
3. After installation type:
Code:

fglrxconfig
4.1 Check if everthing went okay:
Code:

fglrxinfo
Code:

glxinfo | grep render
4.2 Test
Code:

glxgears
and
Code:

fglxgears
5. For troubleshooting check the gentoo wiki or simply come back here! :D ;)

Have fun!

well i really don't know if things are working:

bash-3.00$ fglrxinfo

OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.1)

bash-3.00$ glxgears

840 frames in 5.0 seconds = 168.000 FPS
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
bash-3.00$ fgl_glxgears

No that's broke.
What kernel, what hardware (AMD, 64 bit by any chance ???).

212121 09-05-2005 06:44 PM

the kernel that comes with 10.1 i didn't change anything, it's a acer aspire 1694wlmi pentium m 2.0 ati radeon mobility x700 128mb

syg00 09-05-2005 09:32 PM

that'll be 2.4 then - should be no issue.
Did you reboot ???.

Hmh, just an idea, but check your "Device" section of your xorg.conf and make sure the Driver reads "fglrx".

How can I get the installer? I download it from ATI's site and instead of it saving as a file it opens the 50+ megs of data in my browser, which I then cannot save!!!

AndyMCR 09-13-2005 03:55 PM

Have you tried a right click (on the file name), then save as.....

I finally got it by using netscape. Konqueror, IE and Mozilla for windows wouldn't work.

Hi, just got a new ati card and got the ati drivers. Install went ok, and fglrxconfig.
But when i run fglrxinfo it apperas "unable to open display :0"
if i startx the screen goes black only with a blinking cursor on top right.

Dont know what to do next.
Any ideas how can i resolve this?
