how to install pysol

Anyone know how to install pysol on Slackware? Or whether there's a binary for it? The only binary I can find is a bit out of date, and didn't work for me anyway. I could do with a few more games on here, as I haven't got kde installed.

AFAIK python programs just need unpacking in the right place, not actually installing. Or perhaps some other patience type games. Thanks.

Just unpack the source code, and place a symlink to the main script in /usr/bin.
If you have Python installed, that should be enough.

I managed to get the slackware package installed after all. The tarball I had was a source tarball, so I'm not sure if that would have worked.

I think you firtsly needed to install pysol-sound-server and after that pysol. But this might not be the case.

Someone wrote a slackware package for 10.1, (www.spykes.net) and there's a dependency they suggest installing first from linuxpackages.net, which I did. The package includes the extra card sets etc so nothing else is required. The source package I attempted to install was pysol-4.82-src.tar.bz2, which I couldn't get to run.

Below is the context of a post I made elsewhere regarding pysol. Your problems may be due to what I say towards the end regarding possible dependencies on the freerock gnome libs. You appear to have done just what I did. The only difference may be freerock gnome.

I have PySol running on Slackware 10.2 with Freerock Gnome installed.

The PySol Package was from here:

http://www.spykes.net/packages/pysol-4.82-i486-1spi.tgz

(mentioned in another thread)

There was a dependency on smpeg which I got from here:

http://www.linuxpackages.net/pkg_details.php?id=7638

There was a package of smpeg for 10.1 as well. The 10.2 package was built
on an install with the freerock libs. I don't know about how the 10.1
package was built. I'm running python version 2.4.1

HTH
