How to install fonts and anti-aliasing?

I have downloaded some fonts, how can I install these fonts?

How can I adjust anti-aliasing? I like WinXP Cleartype style font smoothing.

Before you go any farther run xorgsetup (commandline) to see if it improves your video configuration. For me it made a BIG improvement in the way fonts are rendered.
