How to get more than one sound at the same time????
 
I install slackware 9.1, i only can use 1 program whit sound, i am using alsa whit a snd-intel8x0, what i need to do to get sound in gaim for example when watching a movie in mplayer, get 2 sounds at the same time.

i have the i810 chipset in my pc. Under xp i can have more than 1 sound playing, but, under Linux it seems, only 1 at a time.
I also get "cannot open sound device" messages if I try to open two apps that both want sound.

Have to admit I havent looked into this to see if there's a workaround.

You'll need to install a mixer daemon such as ARTS if you run KDE or ESD if you use Gnome or Gnome based WM.

I think you'll be able to use either successfuly regardless of which WM you use.

You'll have to set your apps to use an ESD or ARTS output plugin.

if u use alsa, then u can try jack or dmix plugin for alsa
