How to get firefox to open downloaded files on the its download manager itself
After I downloaded files,eg:flv. files,I found that I can't open my downloaded stuff directly from firefox download window and I have to fire up Konqueror to open my downloaded stuff.
How to get firefox to open my downloaded stuff directly from its default download manager itself?
As far as I know, you have to go to Preferences-->Content-->FileTypes-->Manage and define what you want FF to do. I have never bothered to get it going, you should be able to define a extension, and config what app you want to handle that type of file.
I also have that behavior. I just figured it's a minor bug in Firefox.
It's not a bug, it's a feature!
Seriously, FF will never -by default- open a file of any kind that it cannot open/handle itself, due to safety measures. After all, we don't (well, I don't) want a browser to open up just about anything you throw at it (IE...), especially on Windows.

Well that's the thing. The download box we're talking about requires you to click on 'open' to open the file you just downloaded. We're not asking it to be opened automatically. When I click the link for 'open' it doesn't do anything. I do believe I have my file associations setup properly. I might just try backing up and deleting my .mozilla folder to reset everything.
All kinds of vague problems with FF are very often due to corrupted profiles (which are mainly due to conflicting add-ons).
Creating a new profile usually solves them.
I have found that MIME Edit is nice in this case, but you can do it manually (but I don't remember how at this point -- you have to disable something in about:config involving hiding of MIME elements. I posted instructions a while ago so a search should turn up results [I don't have enough time to look for it now]).

Good luck.
Can you direct me to the thread?I can't find it.
Thank you.
