How to directly connect two cpmputers via wifi
I know how to connect two computers by ethernet cable, by putting up the interface with an ip, although I haven't done it in quite a while, but I have a computer without an ethernet port which I need to connect to a laptop without using a router, at least when I'm away from my router. And I've got no idea how to do it.
The one is running Crunchbang, the other Slackware 14.0, both work perfectly well, wifi-wise. Connecting through the router works fine. It's just direct wifi connection that's got me stumped. |
Haven't actually tested it but you can set up a shared wireless connection using NetworkManager.

Here is an interesting URL I found when searching for what hostapd was used for.
http://nims11.wordpress.com/2012/04/...-access-point/ It has a bit more detail for the configuration. Please document anything you find different than the article states. I'd like to try it in the future. Thanks. Larry |
You want an ADHOC style connection.
NetworkManager should have the necessary scripts to setup the server and client modes for this. |
