How to control download speed?

My internet connection allows to download at 150 kb/second maximum. While downloading data from rapid mirrors, download speed reaches the maximum point and I can't browse any pages until download finishes. I want Slackware to share speed capacity among the applications requires internet connection so that I can browse other pages and use applications requires internet connection while downloading data.

wget --limit-rate=50k http://.../file.name
man wget

lftp has similar options. Please man lftp and search for limit-rate.
