How to connect to a network using Windows and use a internet(LAN) connection
Hi, I'm havn't setup my network yet on Slackware, but that's because I also want to use a shared internet connection over the network. The problem about this is that the server is using Windows ME.
Here is alittle map over it: *** Server(Windows ME) - - - Other pc's | | | Me(Linux Slackware) *** So my question is actually just: How can I setup my network connection to use a shared internet connection through LAN? - Julian |
Hmm. I *think* the Internet Connection Sharing stuff on windows just uses DHCP to configure clients. If so, just running a dhcp client (such as dhcp-client, pump, or dhcpcd) should do it for you. Otherwise, you'll need to figure out the "internal" ip addresses (look at the "other pc"s there and see if you can find an unused IP on that network) and configure that with the WinME computer as the Gateway.

Thanks I'll try

I think your network doesn't use DHCP because otherwise it would set up automatically your NIC. So you can edit the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 file and change the values manually and then it might work.

Cdzin, I'm a newbie, so how can I change the numbers so they are right?
I mean, all I need to do is to change the IP or what? Please elaborate. Thanks. - Julian |
It should be
|-----Server Linux----- | | | | |-----Linux me-------- | -----[Backdoor | | |___________ | | | |---------Windows Me,Backyard-------- |
