Question How to change icon on Desktop folder in KDE

Hi all

I downloaded the new eclipse indingo and extracted it to /home/user/opt/eclipse

I then made a link to the eclipse executable on my Desktop folder. It works well, if I click the link it opens eclipse.

My problem is that it shows the rachet icon on the desktop. When I try to change the icon for only that link I end up changing all the icons for all executables to eclipse's icon.

Very frustrating, I must be overlooking something obvious here...

Hello,

How exactly are you trying to change the icon? I use gnome; I *think* that if you right click and go to properties, you should be able to click on the icon itself within the dialog to change it. Let me know if that helps man!

Cheers,

Josh

Right mouse click and choose Icon Settings then just click the icon picture and you'll get to browse for a new one

Finally got it figured. I made the mistake of dragging the eclipse executables on to the desktop folder from within their folder in /home/user/opt/eclipse/eclipse

strangely when I open the desktop folder in dolphin and select create link to application and fill in all the required stuff it allows me to set the icon for that link only instead of wanting to change the icon for the mime type application/executable

This is weird and inconsistent behavior and it definitely should be a more intuitive process for creating desktop links to apps etc...
