How to allow normal user to access a program under the root folder

Hi,

i install a program dbvis under /usr/local/bin.

After installing, only logging in as root allows me to execute the program. Can can i change to allow normal users to access the dbvis program?

Thanks

Keep ownership as 0:0 but change mode to octal 0755? Note that setting setuid-root access rights is not a workaround unless it is suggested and supported by the developers or maintainers.

The /usr/local file system is reserved for local usage rather than typical system usage. However, as mentioned, all users need at least read permissions to make that happen. Directories should be 755 and files at least 644. Executable files, which is the case for files in /usr/local/bin, should be 755.

Ensure the /usr/local/bin directory is in the system file search path. I think this is the default in Slackware but check to make sure.
