I just installed Slackware 11 on a test system and I want to learn more about KDE (have been a long time Dropline user). One thing I find different under KDE is the path to KDE programs such as kedit is not defined when I use the "su" command from the3 command line.

I want to use kedit without having to type the entire command line each time when I switch to the root user to edit a config file. Where can I add /opt/kde/bin to the PATH so this works when I have su'ed to the root account?

I have looked in my home folder but I don't see any files that have the Path defined. Any guidance would be appreciated.

you have a look at your root's .bash_profile or if you want to have a global path for every users, you may edit /etc/profile

They're defined in /etc/profile and some scripts in /etc/profile.d. Use su - instead of just su, that will load the init scripts.

Look at /etc/profile.d/kde.sh. The path to $KDE/bin should already be in that script. Ensure the script is tagged executable. The script is installed through the kdebase package.
