I'm glad you liked it, but took most of the stuff/ideas from AUR (and hope I haven't forgotten anything)

When stuff refuses to build, I always look first at the BLFS (Beyond Linux From Scratch) page. More often than not, they have just the right patch along with a nice explanation.
