How is X setting font path?

Hello,

I configured my X using xorgcfg. My X is working properly and my xorg.conf is given below:

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Layout0"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
EndSection

Section "Files"
EndSection

Section "Module"
Load "freetype"
# Load "xtt"
Load "extmod"
Load "glx"
Load "dri"
Load "dbe"
Load "record"
Load "xtrap"
Load "type1"
Load "speedo"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "keyboard"
Option "XkbModel" "pc104"
Option "XkbLayout" "us"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
DisplaySize 267 200
HorizSync 30.0 - 55.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 120.0
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "i810"
ChipSet "i815"
Card "i810 i815"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Card0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 16
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768"
# Modes "800x600"
EndSubSection
EndSection

Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection

As we can see above, Section "Files" does not contain any font paths. But if I do xset q I get the output shown below:

Keyboard Control:
auto repeat: on key click percent: 0 LED mask: 00000000
auto repeat delay: 500 repeat rate: 30
auto repeating keys: 00ffffffdffffbbf

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/
Bug Mode: compatibility mode is disabled
DPMS (Energy Star):
Standby: 7200 Suspend: 7200 Off: 14400
DPMS is Disabled
Font cache:
hi-mark (KB): 5120 low-mark (KB): 3840 balance (%): 70
File paths:
Config file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Modules path: /usr/X11R6/lib/modules
Log file: /var/log/Xorg.0.log

How is this font path set without any corresponding entries in xorg.conf? How to add new directories to this font path?

Thanks for your help,

Anand

you should be running the X font Server, xfs seperately to X itself. it is typically started on boot as a service.
