How good is Slack 10's Nvidia support?

Does it have drivers for a GeForce FX 5200? And my Dell P793 monitor?

See, on distros without proper support (Debian, for example) the refresh rate and resolution become terrible, not unlike a flickering light bulb.

i've used nVidia 5200 FX on Dell P991 and it was perfect quality, you just might have to modify xorg.conf a little.

Dave6383 09-06-2004 06:40 PM

So that would mean yes, it does have drivers?

sether 09-06-2004 06:49 PM

i'm actually not sure. i think it has a generic nvidia driver, or even a more specific nvidia fx driver. i didn't encounter any weird display problems though, and complex screensavers worked well.

Nvidia has a closed source driver that you download from their site and install. Most people have not problem installing it, if they follow the directions that nvidia gives. X does have a driver built in called nv. It seems to be okay for 2D but you will need the nvidia driver for 3D.

ringwraith is right. the nv and vesa drivers will work ok for basic stuff, but for anything 3d you need to install nVidia's. you can watch the drama unfold here:
