how exactly do you dual-partition with slack?

How really do make a dual partition of slackware? im using windows xp right now and i dont have slackware on my computer yet because i dont know how to partion. can someone, anyone, tell me how to partition. by the way, i want to keep windows on my computer

is windows taking up the whole drive? if you have only one partition, you will have to resize it somehow to create another partition (or unused space) for slackware to use. you might need a third party tool like partition magic, or that free one (the name of which escapes me right now).

if you have windows on one partition and have another partition (or free space that's not part of the windows partition) you can just boot to the slackware install disk, and use the cfdisk command to set up the free space for slackware.

Ill give u the bit of it well as much as i can (as much as i member) ok first of all defrage ur harddrive in windows and do a scandisk then once all thats done load up the slack cd then use cfdisk or one of them fdisk then make an your linux paritition then if it doesnt see windows. Make a bootup disk in the install of slack so if it tries to load windows u can get into linux then edit /etc/lilo.conf file and make sure that at the end if not report back and i will tell ya what u have to put in there

sorry ****i made a mistake but at the end it showed say something like hd1=windowsxp or something like that then it should work sorry i hope this helps you out...

if XP (or anything, i guess) is taking up the whole disk (one partition), can linux resize it somehow and make new partitions? i didn't know you could resize existing partitions with c/fdisk without losing the data. thx.

Oh shit ya u cant resize it useing cfdisk or fdisk sorry guys i was thinking mandrake but ya u gotta get parition magic or something like that im sure u can get a like a free program if u just look around sorry again!!!

As matt3333 indicated, you should first do a defrag to maximize the amount of contiguous space that could be allocated to a Linux partition. -- J.W.
