Can someone please tell me how to mount a new black cd in my cd-rw

If someone has already said it can't be done, then why are you trying to do it? You do not need to mount a cd to write to it.

... Well.. I guess for the same reason I would use if someone told me
that the world was really flat. Their just might be a another explanation.

By definition a blank CD has no file system. So it is impossible to mount a blank CD!

Same goes to audio cd (correct if I'm wrong).

Mounting, in computer science, is the process of making a file system ready for use by the operating system, typically by reading certain index data structures from storage into memory ahead of time.
source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_%28computing%29

So, the process of mounting deals specifically with and requires a file system. A blank CD does NOT have a file system, neither does an audio CD. Thus, an audio CD MUST be ripped NOT mounted. In some cases movie DVDs must also be ripped when they too do not contain a file system.

Wow ... and there it is ... Rip .. Not mount. I knew there was a reason to post
here. And thank you all for your input/replies. And although I doin't 'google'
I do (as an ex-DECie) Altavista searches. I was searching the wrong ( mount CD-RW )
subject. I will now search "ripping" and see..

Thank you all for pointin' me in the right direction,

Paul

Uhm, you can't ripp data to the CD, you ripp it to extract data from the CD.
Now, lets call a shovel a shovel. You want to burn a CD, right?
There are plenty of tools to to so. You could use the commandline to burn a CD.
Read the manpages for mkisofs, cdrecord, cdrdao, dd, and more.
or you could use graphical programs. I find k3b really good to burn cd/dvd.

pjdudley 11-24-2007 12:05 PM

I've just installed k3b yesterdiddy. But I can't get k3b to see the cd-rw device.
So now I'm beating that bush ...

If you are doing this as another user then root (As you should). Are you a member of the cdrom group?

Yes, I am logged on other than root, and k3b does ask for root
pword. And yes I am cdrom group member.

Hmm, sounds weird. This is as far as my ideas go.
